I first began my unique and flagship Long COVID clinical trial and research study back in October 2020 when the first cases of Long COVID began to emerge.
Long COVID is now a long term health problem for the UK, and the world, with sufferers expected to be in our hospitals and requiring NHS services well into the future. Long COVID will be with us for many years to come.
The results
After many months of research, clinical trials, working with patients, trialling hypnotherapy techniques, old and new, and some of my newly developed techniques, as well as the assessment of all results, the much-awaited final results of my long COVID clinical trial and study are in!
As a clinical hypnotherapist, I wanted to assess the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in the treatment of patients with long COVID. All the volunteers who took part in the study had had COVID-19 and were then suffering from long COVID.
And I am delighted to report that the results since October 2020 are outstanding. The evidence was overwhelming, and patients and volunteers reported and showed signs of the following:
increased stamina and strength
reduced pain
reduced joint pain and muscle aches
improved sleep
improved mobility and flexibility
ease of breathing (and improved breathing patterns)
improved senses (taste, smell etc)
increased focus and concentration
improved mood, and a higher sense of well-being
improved appetite
increased happiness and positivity
improved confidence
increased motivation and belief that they / things will get better
an ability to do simple activities and carry out everyday tasks
improved mental health and mental well-being,
improved (and less extreme) emotions
an overall desire to keep taking steps forward, as well as a renewed zest for life
Each participant in the trial was assessed before, during, and after the treatments using various world-renowned medical assessment techniques and tools. These included the PHQ-9 Patient Health Questionnaire, the WEMWBS Mental Wellbeing Scale, as well as my own clinical hypnotherapy assessment tools.
Long COVID is an extremely debilitating condition. But with the correct treatment and support, and with a well-qualified hypnotherapist, it does ease, and patients and clients do get better in time. If you or someone you know is suffering from long COVID, then please know that clinical hypnotherapy is now a well researched and recognised therapy in the treatment of long COVID. Help is available.
Long COVID: symptoms lasting 12 weeks or longer:
breathlessness
fatigue
chest pains
palpitations
poor sleep
brain fog
mental health problems
joint and muscle pains
lung problems
heart problems
poor mobility
loss of senses
depression and anxiety
loss of appetite
Long COVID is a new illness, and so the treatment has to be developed as we learn more about the disease. Some of the symptoms are similar to those experienced with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as ME.
Patients will be able to access help with the help and support of a qualified clinical hypnotherapist. Therapists will be able to train and gain greater insight and skills into the treatment of long COVID. As well as existing techniques, therapists and hypnotherapists will be able to learn and acquire a new blend of techniques specifically designed in the treatment of long COVID.
How to practise self-care with long COVID
You can also help yourself at home too. Here's how:
1. Understand that your hospital stay (illness) may have been frightening
If it was your relative in hospital, they may not want or be able to talk about it. Hallucinations, delusions, delirium, and confusion are side effects of illness, medication, and noisy ICU wards. But these symptoms will pass. Understanding this for yourself or for your loved one will reassure you that these feelings and experiences were temporary.
2. A balance between support and encouragement
People can often lose confidence after an illness. They may need more support, positivity, and more encouragement and kind words than normal. And it is also important to encourage yourself (or them) too to become fully independent as soon as possible.
3. Look after yourself
If you are the carer it is often easy to forget about yourself. Self-care for yourself is just as important as the care for your friend/relative too.
4. Feeling overwhelmed?
If you are feeling overwhelmed by the situation, by your illness, or by caring for someone else then remember to do three things:
Prioritise. And only do what is really needed at that time, on that day.
Rest. Make sleep your priority. Rest and recharge and take care of yourself.
Seek professional help. Speak to your G.P. or to a therapist.
Clinical hypnotherapy has now proven to be an extremely successful and effective treatment in and for the recovery of long COVID.

For all people, including the general public, therapists, medical practitioners, hypnotherapists and everyone following and asking about the Long COVID research study please, see the link to my previous article Long COVID and hypnotherapy.
Also, check out my 'Surviving life in Lockdown' hacks at the bottom of this article.
Following on from my last article, the Long COVID research study is currently underway investigating and testing the best treatments and therapies to treat people recovering from Coronavirus, and to treat people suffering the long term effects of the disease such as Long COVID.
I am working with a cohort of volunteers, all who have tested positive, and/or have become ill from COVID-19. Some have been hospitalised, some underwent treatment in ICU hospital departments, and all are now suffering from long term complications associated with Long COVID.
In my research study, I work individually with each patient/client. Each person receives various therapeutic and hypnotherapy treatments. And the results are compared.
"This is an in-depth study. It is a qualitative and quantitative research study using data, research and ethical guidelines of the highest standard".
There is no other such study taking place in the world. It is unique and one of a kind. It is the first of its kind and is at the forefront of therapy and innovation, described as a flagship and ground-breaking research study.
The findings will be published in the coming months.
This will be followed by a uniquely devised programme of therapeutic techniques and treatment plans for patients and clients, and a series of workshops and seminars for therapists, medical practitioners and hypnotherapists. A training course and package will also be available.
Patients and clients suffering from Long COVID and the like will be able to book therapy and hypnotherapy sessions in the full knowledge that the techniques are highly effective and successful.
Moreover, therapists and medical practitioners will be able to undergo further training and CPD with myself. They will be able to train in the field of Long COVID and its successful treatment in order to begin helping and treating their clients and patients successfully towards a full recovery.
In the meantime, please do get in touch if you would like to find out more about this study: rebecca@harleystreettherapyclinic.com
The results will be published shortly.
Surviving life in lockdown
Before the results are published, I would like to share a few quick-fix techniques for anyone struggling with life in Lockdown.
This is not a technique for the treatment of Long COVID. This is a separate area.
This is a completely different topic area, and for anyone who may be finding it hard living life through the current lockdown restrictions.
Maybe you are tired of home-schooling.
Fed up of working from home / from bed!
Finding it hard to keep to a good routine.
Feeling down because of dark mornings and dark nights.
Maybe you have lost your job.
Struggling to cope.
Losing perspective.
Finding it difficult to pay the bills.
Fed up of furlough.
And so on and so on...
Well these quick-fix techniques can really help you to feel better in a matter of minutes!
Here goes...
1. Recognise all the times you are getting it right!
2. Drink plenty of water. More than you think you need!
3. Sleep for longer than you think you need to.
4. Take 10 deep breaths every hour, on the hour.
5. Take five deep breaths every half hour.
6. Ask yourself what your worst-case scenario is. On a scale of one to 10 what is the likelihood of this happening? If it does happen, what three things can you do. This will ease the feelings of worry, anxiety, and helplessness.
7. Smile. Even if it's the last thing you feel like doing. Smiling helps you recover from stressful situations and lowers your heart rate.
8. Talk less. No, less than that! You don't need to explain yourself as much as you think you do.
9. Spend a few extra minutes in bed each morning to focus on the day and all the opportunities that lie ahead for you.
10. Pay attention to what you pay attention to. Now place your awareness elsewhere and see what happens.
Please feel free to experiment, and explore. Be playful, open and curious! Enjoy and have fun!
And be patient with yourself.
Thank you, take care, be kind, stay safe!

She is a trusted member of Paul McKenna's & Dr Bandler's trainer team. After her flagship trials &research she now runs the Long Covid Institute & works with clients Worldwide. Her new book is published this year.
Long and longer Covid are fast becoming a reality for thousands and thousands of people across the UK and indeed the world.
Once Coronavirus and its acute symptoms have passed, many are left with long-term symptoms and debilitating conditions, such as acute tiredness, depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, fatigue, and heart problems, palpitations, respiratory problems, as well as numbness, pins and needles, and anosmia, phantosmia parosmia, and more.
At first sufferers may feel alone, wondering if it is just them, or if it was just in their heads, leaving them feeling confused, isolated, and alone.
But now, as more and more such cases are coming to light, and more research by scientists, medics, and neuroscientists, and also research by myself, are taking place, the picture is becoming much, much clearer.
Long Covid, the name commonly used to explain lasting effects of Covid-19, may actually be four different syndromes. People experiencing long term effects of Covid-19 may have different syndromes such as post-intensive care syndrome, post-viral fatigue syndrome, and long-term Covid syndrome.
Symptoms may also affect the respiratory system, the brain, cardiovascular system and heart, the kidneys, the gut, the liver, and the skin.
The key thing to remember here is that you are not alone, and that help is available.
Clinical hypnotherapy is fast becoming a treatment of choice for many in all aspects of dealing with Covid and its aftermath, including coping with grief and loss, anxiety triggered or exacerbated during a global pandemic, OCD, PTSD and trauma, depression, as well as addictions triggered or made worse during lockdown, and all manner of life changes such as job loss, divorce, separation, loss of a loved one, business failure, unemployment, and economic downturn.
Clinical hypnotherapy is proving to be one of, if not the best therapy treatment for mental health issues in both adults as well as children, teenagers, and young people.
The effects of the pandemic on young people and their mental health is unprecedented with young people now suffering more than ever. Children and young people have had to find their way through lockdown, missed education and school closures, cancelled exams, social isolation, University lockdowns, and so on.
Clinical hypnotherapy has always been a recognised treatment for teenagers and young people. And now it is being considered for the treatment of Long Covid in all age groups, young, elderly, and old.
As a clinical hypnotherapist I myself am looking into this further, focussing a research study in the coming weeks and months on the treatment of Long Covid using clinical hypnotherapy for all age groups.
Moreover, researchers at King’s College London have completed a brand new investigation and research study on Coronavirus and the effects it has on the population. Findings show that one out of every 20 people with Coronavirus could experience side effects and symptoms for up to eight weeks or more. This is what has become known as ‘Long Covid’.
Long Covid affects around 10% of 18-49 year olds who become unwell with Covid-19, rising to 22% of over 70s.
People suffering with Long Covid tend to have a slightly higher average BMI than those with short Covid. Women were 50% more likely to suffer from Long Covid than men. Longer Covid also sees symptoms lasting even longer.
King's College London has always been at the forefront of such medical research studies, including working closely with The Maudsley Hospital in London.
I have worked with many people after they have left their residential treatment at the Maudsley Hospital, as well as working with clients from The Priory hospital too.
The Maudsley Hospital is also the largest mental health training institution in the UK. And the world-renowned Priory hospital with flagship hospitals in Roehampton London, Harley Street London, and Altrincham Manchester.
The specialist hospitals treat out-patients and in-patients for addictions, depression, eating disorders and more.
Such work on neuroscience, mental health, and Covid treatments are flagship studies at the forefront of scientific, medical, empirical, qualitative and quantitative research for future generations which will have profound effects on our future health and the way in which we treat these conditions.
I am proud to be a part of this, working with Maudsley and Priory clients, and my upcoming research project too.
So what next?
In my forthcoming research the next steps will be considering which aspects of clinical hypnotherapy work most effectively in the treatment of Long Covid. And then, following on from this a specific, tailor-made therapy programme can then be used to deliver to Long Covid patients, and treatment for clients, as well as sharing the programme with healthcare practitioners, hospitals, hospices, and the wider community.
If you would like to be involved in the research study please email me for more information: rebecca@harleystreettherapyclinic.com
Thank you.

As well as looking after others during the Covid-19 Lockdown it is equally (if not more) important to look after ourselves too.
To this end I have enrolled onto a distance-learning course with the prestigious, Ivy League University in the United States; Yale University.
Studying and learning something new is a great way of expanding your horizons during
what is an unusual and unprecedented time for us all.
Lifelong learning is something that I have always valued, relished as an endeavour, and always enjoyed.

How much is your drug addiction costing you?
A drug addiction can cost anything from tens to even thousands of $ dollars / £ pounds a week. Recently a client told me that since their Clinical Hypnotherapy session with me last year to quit cocaine, they have saved over £10, 000. And I also speak to clients who are saving in excess of £1,000 a week!
What can often start as a social and recreational habit, all too often quickly spirals out of control. What starts as a party, ends in isolation, depression, addiction, paranoia, and loss.
If you are struggling with a drug addiction, Clinical Hypnotherapy can help.

This Summer I'll be working here with Dr. Bandler in Florida.
Florida is at the heart of Scientific Research, Neurology, & Human Brain Advancement Technologies (as well as NASA & the Space Program!). I have previously lived and worked in Kazakhstan for the United Nations - another Hotspot for scientific research, brain technologies, & space advancement. In fact, the first person in space, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in the desert steppe of Baikonur, Kazakhstan, on April 12, 1961.
I'll be furthering my learning in Neurology, learning off the BEST of the BEST and studying hard! It's not going to be an easy ride - BUT if you really want something you have to work hard at it! You have to be committed! And most importantly, you have to GO for it!!
I'm looking forward to honing my skills even further as a hypnotist, a hypnotherapist, a Mentor for those facing incredible challenges and adventures ahead, and delving deeper into the world of neurology and brain science!
The Artemis program will send the first woman and the next man to the Moon by 2024 and develop a sustainable human presence on the Moon by 2028. The program takes its name from the twin sister of Apollo and goddess of the Moon in Greek mythology.
I can't wait for the adventures ahead...

Overcoming Addiction & Trauma; Psychotherapy Vs. Hypnotherapy.
Over recent years I have noticed that some of my clients are actually psychiatrists and psychotherapists. People who work in the same field as I do: Therapy.
And who have had countless hours of psychotherapy themselves for a variety of issues, as well as for their own professional development and regulated Supervision sessions.
I soon began to realise and thus question that if psychiatrists and psychotherapists were actively seeking out myself, a clinical hypnotherapist, then perhaps my own specialism and indeed hypnotherapy was able to offer something much more than they could offer themselves, and others, from their own field of therapy.
In addition to this, professionally, I have my own connections with two colleagues, both psychiatrists (one living in Norway, and the other in Sweden), who are now qualified hypnotherapists in their own rights, choosing the latter as their preferred form of therapy for treating their patients in their respective countries...
And so I decided to research the matter further and to delve deeper into this area to find out exactly why this is.
I came across an article in The American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis entitled: ‘A Comparative Study of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy in the Treatment of Methadone Addicts’, (American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis Vol. 26, Issue 4).
The link to the full article may be found below.
I mostly work with clients suffering from such issues, my specialisms being addiction, trauma (PTSD), depression, and anxiety; and so knowing about this field meant that considering this comparison and study might help me explain, and thus inform the general public further, the benefits and differences between the two types of therapy.
The experiment consisted of a Control Group and an Experimental Group (the latter group receiving hypnotherapy). The conclusion to the study highlighted a far greater success rate for recovering drug addicts who had hypnotherapy, as opposed to those only receiving psychotherapy. The Hypnotherapy group experienced less pain, less discomfort, and had a significantly higher number of successful drug withdrawals at the 6 month follow up meeting / appointment (94%).
However, no real reason was given as to why this was the case.
Having been a clinical hypnotherapist for many years now, and having worked with hundreds of clients, my empirical evidence demonstrates 100% success, exactly in line with what the study proves.
However, as all good hypnotherapists know, legally, by law, I can never guarantee a client a 100% success, despite knowing this 100% success rate deep down to be the case.
So how do we as professionals inform the general public as to the benefits of hypnotherapy?
I work with clients from hospitals, residential & rehab centres, and also individuals and private clients recommended to me from their friends, family and colleagues all over the world.
And my belief is that the best way to inform people is by continued good practice, delivering client success, professionalism and integrity, and amazing, awe-inspiring results!
Changed and transformed lives speak much louder than anything else.
Later this year, I will be endeavouring to undertake my own research project to take this evidence and research one step further.
I do believe that scientific research and best practice is one way of enabling the general public to be adequately and accurately informed of the biological, neurological, mental, emotional, and physical effects, benefits, and outcomes of clinical hypnotherapy.
Illnesses, and related issues, such as addiction, trauma, PTSD, anxiety and depression, can all be effectively treated and resolved, enabling people to get back onto the road of recovery towards a future of health, wellness, and mental well-being.
If you would like to find out more about my future research project, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you.
